A 25-year-old Bulawayo man from Nkulumane has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 16-year-old girl from the same neighbourhood.
The man was convicted and sentenced by the West Commonage Magistrates’ Court following the sexual assault, which occurred in July this year.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on July 11, 2026, at around 6pm when the girl was returning home after fetching water from a community tape.
The court heard that the man called the girl to his residence. After she entered a room at the house, he sexually assaulted her.
After the assault, the man instructed the girl to leave his residence.
The victim later disclosed what had happened to her sister, who assisted her in making a report to the police. The report led to the man’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
The court ultimately convicted the accused and sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment.
The NPAZ condemned sexual violence, particularly offences committed against children, and reiterated its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
The prosecution authority urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report cases of sexual abuse involving children to the police and other relevant authorities.
