The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr. Douglas Mombeshora, officially opened the newly renovated Gynaecological Ward A2 at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare.
According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the ward was refurbished with support from the Dr. Timothy Stamps Trust for Chronic Conditions.
Said Ministry of Health and Child Care in a statement:
“As one of Zimbabwe’s leading tertiary referral institutions, Sally Mugabe Central Hospital plays a critical role in delivering specialized obstetric and gynaecological care. The modernisation of Ward A2 significantly elevates the care environment for women undergoing specialised surgical and postoperative treatment, prioritising infection prevention, patient safety, privacy and dignity.
” Investments of this nature directly advance national efforts to improve maternal and reproductive health outcomes across the country. While Zimbabwe continues to make encouraging progress in reducing maternal mortality, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that no woman loses her life while giving life and that every woman receives safe, respectful and quality healthcare.
Furthermore, the investment strengthens the national response to conditions like cervical cancer by providing the quality infrastructure essential for effective prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery.”
Zimbabwe is moving to enact a dedicated Menstrual Health Management Act and has completed the refurbishment of the Gynaecological Ward A2 at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare. These updates aim to improve dignity, menstrual hygiene access, and maternal-gynecological infrastructure nationwide.
