The Bernard Mizeki Shrine is a revered Anglican Church holy site and pilgrimage destination in Marondera, Zimbabwe, dedicated to the 19th-century African missionary and martyr (Muzeki). It marks the location where he was martyred in June 1896.
Bernard Mizeki (c. 1861 – 18 June 1896) was an extraordinary Mozambican-born catechist, polyglot, and missionary who became the protomartyr (first martyr) of the Anglican Church in Southern Africa. He is widely revered across Zimbabwe and South Africa as a foundational icon of indigenous African Christianity.
Daughters of Virtue prayer group led by Prophetess Memory Matimbire hosts a pilgrimage annually to mark the end of a fasting season usually held every June at Mutemwa Prayer Mountain.
Today, the mountain is a popular pilgrimage site, especially among Christians, who come to pray and seek healing and other divine interventions. The Mutemwa Mountain is considered a holy shrine, with some believing it has supernatural powers.
This year, the prayer group has shifted eastwards for the day of prayer and connection with the Almighty.
Thousands congregates are expected to throng the shrine with some coming from as far as Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi to mention a few including multitudes from Zimbabwe.
Daughters of Virtue is known for its gatherings in mountains, the popular one being the ‘Glen Norah’ mountain where thousands congregate for prayer every Wednesday.
