Zimbabwe and China have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic and strategic cooperation following a meeting between Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, yesterday in Harare.

In a post on X after the meeting, Zhou said the two discussed strengthening the longstanding partnership between Harare and Beijing, with a focus on renewable energy, transport, artificial intelligence and skills development.

“It was an honour to meet with Hon. Gen. (Rtd) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga, Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe,” Zhou wrote.

He said the discussions also explored ways of leveraging China’s zero-tariff policy for eligible African exports to promote local value addition, create jobs and increase government revenue.

According to Zhou, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations and unlocking Zimbabwe’s economic potential by attracting greater investment and expanding cooperation across strategic sectors.

China is one of Zimbabwe’s largest trading partners and a major source of investment, with projects spanning infrastructure, mining, energy, agriculture and manufacturing.

The meeting underscores continued efforts by Harare and Beijing to strengthen trade and investment ties as Zimbabwe seeks to grow exports and industrialise through closer economic cooperation with China.
