Isheanesu Multipurpose Skills Training Centre, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of experts, conducted comprehensive disability assessments at Tendayi Centre in Mufakose today.

The team, comprising rehabilitation staff, educators, and social workers, worked with beneficiaries to identify individual needs and provide targeted support.

Assessments revealed that many children had conditions that can be corrected through physiotherapy, shoe raises, or corrective devices like lumber corsets. Some children previously reliant on wheelchairs were identified as potential candidates for walkers or walking sticks, while others, including those with Down syndrome, showed strong skills training potential.

Community members’ involvement in the assessments helped identify potential areas for support, enhancing the centre’s ability to empower lives and promote holistic development.

However, some children assessed were identified as needing surgery but lacked resources for transport to medical facilities. The Health Promotion Clinic Trust therapist discussed potential solutions with Isheanesu’s General Manager, aiming to mobilise support for these children.

“We’re committed to supporting these children and exploring options for assistance, including partnerships with local businesses and NGOs,” said Mr Jordan Kambarami, General Manager of Isheanesu Multipurpose Skills Training Centre.

Two intern social workers also gained valuable experience during the assessments. “It was a great learning opportunity, and we saw firsthand the impact of community-based rehabilitation,” said one of the interns Yvonne Marresera.

“The assessment helped us identify areas to focus on during our devices training workshop on March 27, ensuring we address the specific needs of our beneficiaries,” Bigboy Madzivanzira added.
