Zimbabwe produced one of their most memorable T20 World Cup performances after defeating former champions Australia by 23 runs in Colombo on Friday.

Brian Bennett led the charge with an unbeaten 64, powering Zimbabwe to a competitive 169/2 at the R Premadasa Stadium. Skipper Sikandar Raza added 25 not out, sealing the innings in style with a six off the final ball.

In reply, Australia crumbled early, losing four wickets inside five overs. Despite fighting knocks from Matt Renshaw (65) and Glenn Maxwell (31), Zimbabwe’s bowlers turned up the heat.

Blessing Muzarabani was outstanding with 4-17, while Brad Evans chipped in with 3-23 as Australia were bowled out for 146 in 19.3 overs.

A proud Raza praised the team’s unity and fighting spirit, calling it an “unbelievable” win.
It’s a statement victory for the Chevronearless, disciplined and hungry on the world stage.
