Gweru philanthropist and Zanu PF Midlands women’s league provincial member Zezai Makomo has urged women to be resilient and fight for their space in all sectors of the economy.
She also urged youths to shun drug and substance abuse saying they should instead heed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for a “brighter and prosperous economic future” under Vision 2030.
Speaking this week at a provincial women’s league meeting at the Zanu PF party district offices Makomo said women in the Midlands capital and the province as a whole should embrace the opportunities extended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa through Vision 2030 so that they can be economically empowered.
“His Excellency President Mnangagwa has been clear in Vision 2030 that the country is moving forward to be an upper middle income economy by 2030,”she said.
“His Excellency (President Mnangagwa) has said that as the country makes economic progress to attain Vision 2030 the ultimate goal is to leave no-one and no place behind. As Midlands women let us embrace this clarion call and support our President in this vision as we at the same time also get empowered.”
Makomo, a fighter for women economic empowerment herself said gone are the days when women would wait in the kitchen for their husbands to provide for the family.
She said the Second Republic had provided numerous opportunities for women and said it was up to them (women) to take them up.
“When President Mnangagwa talks of economic empowerment of every citizen, he really means it,”she said.
“So let us stand up and tall and get empowered as women. Let us not be found wanting in supporting Vision 2030. Let us be part of a winning team.”
Makomo paid tribute to women whom she said were the custodians of family ties.
“We know as women you are grappling with looking after families, dealing with a generation of children hooked up on drug and substance abuse. But you have endured all those challenges and l urge you to continue with that spirit.”
Last year and early this year Makomo extended her warm heart to help vulnerable groups in several wards in Gweru Urban with food and other grocery donations.
She also commended Midlands provincial affairs and devolution minister Owen Ncube for being President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 torch bearer in the province.
Ncube has been recognized and awarded as one of the best examplary and hard working minister in the Second Republic who has not only advanced the progress and economic growth of Midlands but the country as a whole.
