The City of Harare has extended the grace period for residents and ratepayers who have outstanding debts to 7 March 2026.
In a statement, City of Harare said:
“The City of Harare would like to advise its ratepayers that the discount period has been extended to 7 March 2026.
Let’s continue to support the Harare, A smart city of choice by 2030, Vision of the city, by paying your bills and rates.”

Initially, the City of Harare, offered a 20% discount to residents who settle their outstanding debts between January 19, 2026, and February 15, 2026.

Harare Mayor Cllr Jacob Mafume revealed this during a recent press conference at Town House recently.

Mafume said this initiative aims to improve revenue collection and enhance service delivery in the capital city.

“Residents who take advantage of this offer will not only benefit from the discount but also contribute to the city’s development.

Additionally, those paying in foreign currency will receive further discounts.

“Residents who are up-to-date with payments will be rewarded with loyalty points which means their next payments will also get discounts,”said Mafume.

The City Council has revealed that numerous residents and businesses have failed to meet their financial obligations, leading to a growing backlog of outstanding payments. The situation has become increasingly critical, impacting the city’s ability to provide essential services and infrastructure maintenance.
