As I mark this significant milestone, I’m reminded of the journey that has brought me here. Growing up, I always thought my father, who passed away at 60, was invincible. It wasn’t until I reached this age that I realized the importance of prioritizing health and well-being.
My father, born on January 24, 1932, was a man of great strength and resilience. However, his love for illicit brew, kachasu, took a toll on his health. I’ve often thought that if I had followed in his footsteps, I wouldn’t have made it this far. The saying “like father, like son” can be a slippery slope, but I’m grateful I chose a different path.
As a Health Promotion Practitioner, Medical Rehabilitation Practitioner, Family Therapist, and Freelance Journalist, I’ve seen the impact of lifestyle choices on our health. I’ve made conscious decisions to prioritize my well-being, and I encourage others to do the same.
To the youth, I say: don’t wait until it’s too late. Take care of your health, pursue your passions, and cherish every moment. Life is a gift, and it’s up to us to make the most of it.
On this special day, I’ll be visiting my patients and assisting persons with disabilities, continuing my commitment to giving back to the community. I’d like to extend my condolences to Vimbai Zvenyika’s family, who passed away yesterday. She was a dedicated Nurse Aide and Disability Care Worker who made a significant impact.
In Zimbabwe, organizations like Leonard Cheshire Disability Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Parents of Handicapped Children Association are working tirelessly to support persons with disabilities, providing essential services like healthcare, education, and economic empowerment
