St Christopher’s Children with Disability recently held a successful Disability awareness campaign at Pamuzinda shopping centre in Hatcliffe, Harare, on 5 December 2025, with a powerful message: “Every Child deserves love, respect and equal opportunity. Let’s see the ability not the disability.”
The event aimed to promote inclusivity and challenge stereotypes surrounding disability, highlighting the importance of upholding children’s rights.
The campaign was a huge success, thanks to the dedication of St Christopher’s Children with Disability. Their efforts will undoubtedly make a lasting impact in the community.
Board Chair, Mr Fungai Mawerera, welcomed everyone to the campaign, emphasizing the importance of community-level inclusion and awareness. He highlighted the significance of the new Persons with Disabilities Act and urged the community to promote inclusivity and accessibility.
Key Highlights from Mr Mawerera’s Speech:
– “Disability inclusion must happen where people live, where people learn, and where people work — in the community itself.”
– The goal of the campaign is to “raise awareness, strengthen understanding, and promote positive attitudes towards persons with disabilities.”
– The new Persons with Disabilities Act “strengthens legal protections, promotes accessibility, and reinforces the responsibility of government institutions, service providers, communities, and families to ensure that persons with disabilities fully enjoy their rights.”
– “Inclusion starts with awareness, and awareness starts with each of us.”
Guest of Honour, Mrs Dube from the Ministry of Local Government, emphasized the importance of disability inclusion and awareness. She highlighted Zimbabwe’s progress in advancing disability rights and urged the community to promote inclusivity and accessibility.

– Disability inclusion begins at the community level.
– Zimbabwe has made significant strides in advancing disability rights, including the National Disability Policy (2021) and the Persons with Disabilities Act.

– “Disability does not determine destiny; every person can thrive.”
The event was a celebration of abilities and a call to action for a more inclusive society.

Mrs Patricia Kambarami, Director of St Christopher’s Children with Disability, is leading the organisation to greater heights with her visionary leadership. As the founder, she has focused on networking with relevant organisations locally, regionally, and internationally to promote disability inclusion and awareness.
