THE Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development has hailed the Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF) for supporting the rehabilitation of a 2 kilometre section of Kew Drive, describing the intervention as a key boost to ongoing national infrastructure development efforts.

Permanent Secretary in the ministry Engineer Joy Makumbe confirmed the project and said MIF had already committed resources toward the full reconstruction of the damaged stretch.

She said the work will involve removing the worn out asphalt layer characterised by cracks, ruts and uneven patches before laying a new compacted asphalt surface complete with fresh road markings.

According to the ministry, the upgrade is expected to improve driving safety and comfort by eliminating potholes, bumps and other defects that increase the risk of accidents and vehicle damage.

Eng Makumbe said the development reflects the importance of partnerships between Government and the private sector in accelerating national infrastructure programmes.

“This project sends a strong message to the corporate world that national development is not the responsibility of Government alone,” she said. “When vision, capital and accountability converge, we can deliver remarkable results,” she said.

She added that private sector participation in infrastructure should be viewed not only as corporate social responsibility but as long term investment that strengthens the operating environment for business.

“Bold and innovative collaboration, guided by shared national interest, can create durable infrastructure and unlock opportunities for future generations,” Eng Makumbe she said on the sidelines of a media tour of the ongoing Bulawayo -Vic Falls road rehabiltation Thursday .

The tour was graced by top government officials from the Ministry of Transport ,Zinara officials and traditional leaders.
