The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has released a statement following the tragic killing of Mr. Fungai Nhau in Mutoko, allegedly involving a Chinese supervisor from China Zhuhe Mining Company.
ZCC said it condemns all forms of violence, exploitation, and disregard for human life that continue to surface in some mining operations across the country. ZCC said such actions undermine human dignity, strain community relations, and violate the principles of justice and equality that should guide all economic activity.
The Council has called on all mining companies, to operate with respect for human rights, fair labour practices, and the sanctity of life. ZCC has also urged government authorities in Zimbabwe to ensure that laws and ethical standards are fully enforced in the extractive sector.
The church coalition group said as they mourn with the family of Mr. Nhau, they reaffirm their commitment to a peaceful, just, and accountable Zimbabwe where every person’s life and dignity are protected.
