The Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense in Zimbabwe have today convened a symposium on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325) in alignment with the Beijing+30 Action Agenda.

According to a representative of Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Charles Tawengwa the two day symposium which runs from 9 to 10 October,2025 marks a pivotal moment as the country commemorates the 25th anniversary of UNSCR 1325,a landmark resolution that highlights the indispensable role of women in peace, security and decision-making processes.

According to the Minister, the symposium will celebrate progress,as key stakeholders, mainly women come together to recognize and celebrate the strides made in implementing UNSCR 1325 and advancing the women, peace and security agenda. The symposium will also help stakeholders to draw on lessons learned to strengthen the women, peace and security framework in Zimbabwe. The symposium will also provide an opportunity to engage stakeholders on the Beijing+30 Agenda and commitments made during the recent global commemorative event.

The symposium also seeks to build momentum as stakeholders seek to amplify the commitments made during the High Level Meeting on the Beijing+30 Action Agenda held at UNGA80, ensuring they resonate throughout communities. The symposium also aims to produce a comprehensive action plan that outlines mechanisms to support women and young women in the implementation of UNSCR 1325.

It will also document insights gained in a report, creating a roadmap that highlights key actions for advancing the women, peace and security agenda. The government by going through the processes has reaffirmed it’s dedication to advancing gender equality and empowering women in every facet of national development.

“As we engage in dialogue and share our experiences,l encourage each of you to participate actively.Let us explore practical ways to elevate women, especially young women,as vital contributors to building and sustaining peace,”Minister Tawengwa encouraged participants.
