Meet Keith Manhovo, a bright and determined grade 3 student who has faced more challenges than most people face in a lifetime. Born a normal baby, Keith’s life took a dramatic turn when he accidentally burnt his feet while crawling, resulting in severe deformities.
A Difficult Journey to School
Despite the pain and discomfort, Keith’s determination to learn kept him going. He would push himself in a wheelchair, navigating rough terrain and sand for two and a half kilometers from Maturure village to Mazvimba Primary School. Initially, his classmates would assist him, but he later learned to propel himself, albeit with great difficulty.
A Helping Hand
Fortunately, Keith’s plight didn’t go unnoticed. Two dedicated teachers, Mazarire Paridzirai and Samanyara Hazel, along with Tichagwa Tichaona, an ambulance driver, rallied support for Keith. They organized a brailor project, which raised funds for surgical boots that would change Keith’s life.
New Beginnings
Thanks to the efforts of Health Promotion Clinic Trust, Keith finally received the much-needed boots, enabling him to move around with ease. Additionally, he received clothes and support from Sister Janice Bell of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Harare.
A Bright Future Ahead
Despite the obstacles he’s faced, Keith remains a bright and ambitious young boy. With the support of his community and dedicated individuals, he’s now able to focus on his studies and pursue his dreams. Keith’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and the impact of community support.
