Harare Mayor Cllr Jacob Mafume has directed that arrangements be made to modernize the city’s libraries. This directive was given while the mayor was addressing the Full Council Meeting yesterday at Town House.

His sentiments came after Cllr Womberaiishe Nhende represented the mayor at the Zimbabwe Libraries Association 58th Annual Congress, which took place from September 22-25, 2025 in Nyanga.

The congress highlighted the importance of libraries in promoting literacy, education, and community development.

Mayor Mafume emphasized the need to install WiFi in all library branches, providing residents with access to digital resources and promoting learning, research, and innovation. He also stressed the importance of offering free public WiFi, saying, “We can’t be a modernized city that doesn’t offer free WiFi to our people.”

The modernization of Harare’s libraries is expected to have a positive impact on the community, promoting literacy, education, and digital inclusion.
