Teachers say they are incapacitated and they will not able to report for duty when schools open for the third term on Tuesday.
In a crosspondence addressed to officers in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Zimbabwe Teachers Renumeration Struggle (ZTRS) President, Zvikomborero Nyabadza said the Ministry is lying to stakeholders that all is well ahead the schools opening for the third term.

“Enough is enough! It’s time to stop deceiving stakeholders that all is well and organized for the opening of schools on September 9, 2025,” read the letter.

” The harsh reality on the ground is a stark contrast to your claims. Teachers are struggling to make ends meet, living in abject poverty, and are utterly incapacitated to report for duty.

“Your expectation that schools will run smoothly is nothing short of delusional. You’re aware that teachers are barely surviving, yet you continue to pretend that everything is fine. The directive to send learners to school without fees is unrealistic, and you’re well aware that schools can’t operate without resources. From whose pockets do you expect schools to run?”.
Nyabadza said teachers will not be able to report for duty.

“The truth is, teachers won’t report for duty as you’re claiming. They’re exhausted, demotivated, and struggling to put food on the table. Parents will send their children to school at their own risk, as the system is on the brink of collapse.”
Nyabadza said it was high time the Ministry meets with stakeholders to find a long lasting crisis on teachers renumeration.

“It’s time to acknowledge the crisis and work towards finding solutions. The status quo is unsustainable, and your lies only exacerbate the problem. We urge you to engage with teachers, parents, and stakeholders to find a way forward.

“The opening of schools on September 9, 2025, will be a disaster if things don’t change. We won’t be party to this charade. It’s time for honesty and collective action to address the challenges facing our education system.”
He concluded:

“The Ministry is pretending and lying that all is well as they continue to brew disaster
Not even a single normal teacher is prepared to go back to work except those who are going for extra lessons and assist project for money.”
