52 -Mubaira Road now an eyesore of potholes

Government has been called to urgently rehabilitate roads in Mhondoro district which are now virtually impassable.
Some villagers and public transporters who spoke to The Blast said the roads in the district are now a nightmare.
The Blast managed to speak to commuters and transporters who use the 52- Mubaira tarred road which is now an eyesore of potholes.
“We are calling on the authorities to immediately take action as the road has become impassible,” said a transporter who plies 52 -Mubaira route.
Some motorists who spoke to The Blast said authorities must desist from putting muddy patches that are not long lasting as they are easily washed away by the rains.
“This road needs some serious rehabilitation even it means scrapping the whole portion of the tar and putting a new one. It is sad to note that every year, the road authority uses mud to patch up the potholes. That method does not work as the rains easily wash off the patches. In fact, the road should be declared a state of disaster,” said motorists.
Some commuters said kombi operators are either shunning the route or are inflating fares.
“As a result of the bad state of the road, we now face a challenge of that kombi operators and other private vehicle that carry passengers are shunning the route or are inflating fares. Imagine paying $2 for a fare of a dollar from 52 to Kadhani business center;” said Kerina Matambo.
The 50 kms stretch of tarted Road which connects 52 turn off and Mubaira growth point, was officially opened to traffic in 1995.
Another villager who requested anonymity cited the poor state of road linking Mubaira Growth Point and Neuso.
“Mubaira neuso hatina road zvachose avovese vatinosarudza zvaramba nsaifunga kuti vana vemhondoro ngatibatanei kusimudzira nzvimbo yedu tinokumbirawo kune kunze kusimudzira ma shopping centre edu ma road edu”.
Said another villager:

Other members of Mhondoro district community also cited the Mhondoro- Dzumbunu, Chegutu- Mubaira and Kadhani Manyewe roads which are in a poor state.
An official in the Ministry of Roads and Infrastructure Development who spoke on condition of anonymity said government is in the process of rehabilitation of the roads.
“We are now in the tender process and all the roads mentioned will soon be maintained under the vision of the Second Republic”.
