Midlands Miners have paid tribute to liberation war heroes for creating a conducive economic environment for them to contribute to the country’s economic growth.

In an interview with The Blast after the recent Heroes and Defence Forces Day held this Monday and Tuesday respectively, Miners4ED member and Gweru based miner, Ticha (Big Tich) Darangwa said the liberation fighters did not only bring political independence but economic freedom as well.

“As Midlands miners we salute the men and women who sacrificed their lives to bring both political and economic independence,”Darangwa said.

“Before independence it was unheard of for blacks to venture into mining. But now many of us are into gold, chrome and lithium among other minerals and we owe that privilege to the liberation fighters. We salute their sacrifices to bring economic opportunities to black people.”

Darangwa reiterated that Midlands miners were committed to raise the province’s Gross Domestic Product as well as contributing to the country’s GDP.

He urged miners to learn from the example of liberation heroes and show unity of purpose in serving the country.

“If the liberation heroes were not united the struggle for independence would not have been successful and as miners we should borrow a leaf from the fighters as we endevour to contribute to the country’s economic growth,”he said.
