Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) National Coordinator Tafadzwa Goliati has urged transport operators to give their drivers sufficient rest time to avoid fatigue, especially during the public holidays like Heroes.

“We call upon drivers to refrain from being intoxicated by alcohol or taking drugs while on duty, as this can lead to serious road crashes,”Goliati said.

Goliati said PAZ has hopes that the Zimbabwe Republic Police will closely monitor the situation, and emphasize the importance of highway patrols. Goliati said bus crews must avoid overloading passengers and said his organization acknowledged that sometimes passengers are also to blame, as they often force themselves onto buses in a haste to reach their destinations on time. He said road safety is everyone’s responsibility and urged the public to take charge and speak out or report irresponsible driving.
