Opposition Mkoba South legislator John Kuka has expressed concern at the pupil to teacher ratio that has seen schools introducing hot sitting to cater for more children at learning institutions.

Speaking last weekend at Budiriro B independent school in Gweru where he donated two tonnes of cement towards the construction of a school block Kuka said schools should prioritise learning facilities for the betterment of education in the country.

“When l learnt that Budiriro B college was in the process of constructing more blocks l said to myself l should donate towards this worth cause,”Kuka said.

” We see most schools engaging in hot sitting because of inadequate learning facilities and teacher to pupil ratio. So we are saying there should be more school blocks so that our children can have what it takes to have better education facilities.”

The Mkoba South member of the House of Assembly also donated African traditional kits to the school to enhance the school’s heritage studies.

“I was disheartened when l was called to this school at a prize giving ceremony and children were using buckets instead of traditional drums,”he said.

“So l just decided to also donated a full traditional kit to the school. Children need to learn more about our tradition and they need these kits.”

Budiriro B college director Alson Vutabwashe commended Kuka for the cement and traditional kit donation and said it will go a long way in empowering the education of children.

“We would like to thank the kind donation from the legislator as it has advanced our endeavours in educating our kids,”Vutabwashe said.

The school’s development committee chairperson Happison Jera said schools should focus on providing the best facilities to children.

“The parents and guardians of children should forge a strong alliance with schools to enhance the education of our children,”Jera said.
