The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) today joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Food Safety Day.
Read CCZ statement:

“The Consumer council of Zimbabwe joins the global community in commemorating World Food Safety Day held under the theme- Food Safety :Science in Action.
This year’s theme
brings an opportunity to reconceptualise the utility of science in understanding food safety as a central pillar in the global development agenda.

“Science is at heart of food safety, and it is key in understanding what makes food unsafe, guiding consumers and producers on how to prevent food borne diseases.

Attention is given to the use of scientific knowledge as it is key to reducing unforseen circumstances such as illnesses.”
CCZ said it was concerned over an increase of counterfeit and unsafe products on the local market.

“There is a proliferation of unsafe foods in the market, ranging from counterfeit products, imitations, foods prepared using unhygienic means, among others. We need to act. Consumers should desist from buying food that is prepared or sold in dirty places”.
The purpose of the observance of the day is to draw attention to the extent of occupational illness, injury, and death as well as new developments and hazards in occupational safety and health on a global scale.
