A  local traditionalist is  calling for the country to return to its traditional values for the nation to fully enjoy peace, unity and prosperity.
In an interview with The Blast, Marvlen Mashinge, a traditionalist based in Harare said a lot of misfortunes are occuring in Zimbabwe as citizens are no longer adhering to the country’s traditional values.
“We are calling upon all Zimbabweans to follow their traditional and cultural values set by our ancestors because we are what we are because of our cultural values,”he said.
“We are experiencing misfortunes such as droughts, floods, accidents and disunity because we are no longer following our traditional values as a nation. We need to know where we came from as a nation.Zimbabwe has lots of potential be in social, economic and political spheres but because we have abandoned our cultural norms, we are going backwards as a country.”
Mashinge added:
“There is a need for a comprehensive awareness programme to educate each other as a country on the importance of valuing our traditional norms and values. We might have abundant natural resources and minerals but as long as we don’t adhere to our cultural and traditional norms, we won’t go anywhere as a country.
Mashinge said there is a need to mobilize traditionalists to lead the country in ensuring that traditional and cultural norms are followed.

“There is a need to engage all traditionalists and cultural leaders to lead in the education programmes on the importance of following our tradition.Yes we have abundance in terms of natural resources but for us to realize our full potential as a country, we need to follow our traditional norms and values,” he said.
