In a significant development for Harare City FC, City Parking boss Simon Muzviyo at the weekend appointed chairman tasked with spearheading the team’s return to the premiership.
The announcement was made at the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday marking a new chapter in the club’s history. Muzviyo, a seasoned leader with a wealth of knowledge and expertise, brings a visionary approach to the role.
Harare City FC, a club with a rich history in Zimbabwean football, was relegated to Division 1 a few years ago. However, the team has a proud past, having captured the prestigious Chibuku Trophy twice and represented the country in the CAF competitions during their stint in the premiership.
They were also close to clinching the PSL Championship, narrowly missing out to Dynamos FC on the final day of the season. During their time in the top flight, Harare City FC showcased their talent by selling two players to the international markets, namely Silas Songani and Tino Kadewere, a testament to the club’s ability to identify and develop top talent.
The club’s junior policy has been particularly successful, with many of its products turning out for more than half of the teams in the premier league. Several of these talented youngsters have also gone on to play for teams in Division 1, a clear indication of the club’s commitment to developing young talent.
Prior to Muzviyo’s appointment, Harare City Sports Committee Chairman Cllr Stan Manyenga challenged the incoming team to turn around the fortunes of the flagship men’s team and make it competitive at the highest level. Cllr Manyenga also emphasized the importance of community involvement, setting the tone for a new era of collaboration and engagement.
Under Muzviyo’s leadership, the new executive committee is well-equipped to tackle the challenges ahead. The team includes Deputy Chairman Mr. Warren Chiwawa, Secretary General Edgar Dzehonye, Sponsorship and team welfare Stanley Gama, Organizing Secretary Mercy Makuvatsine, and Treasurer Mr. Godfrey Kusangaya. Hope Chizuzu will handle marketing.
The newly formed advisory board, guided by Rtr Major Mathew Marara, will provide strategic oversight and direction, ensuring the soccer executive and entire sports code thrive. With a fully structured system in place, including men’s and women’s teams, as well as junior teams in both categories, Harare City FC is primed for success.
The club’s future looks brighter than ever, with a strong leadership team, talented players, and a clear vision for growth and development. As the team takes to the pitch, fans can expect to see a renewed sense of purpose, passion, and dedication, driving Harare City FC towards a triumphant return to the premier soccer league and beyond. The stage is set for a thrilling new chapter in the club’s history, and with this talented and driven team at the helm, the possibilities are endless.
