The Bible Society of Zimbabwe on 27 March held a sign language bible community review workshop in Harare to scrutinize the first draft translation of the bible.
The translation initiative is being done to ensure that the deaf people read the bible in a language they prefer.
Said Zimbabwe Council of Churches, which was among the stakeholders at the workshop.
” This is a process done in Bible Translation after the translators has done the first draft Translation. The Deaf community representatives from all over the country like Deaf Organizations, Churches and Deaf community leaders come together and check the draft done by Translators, give their own suggestions and correct some signs they are not understanding.
” In this Community review people came from areas that include Victoria Falls, Bulawayo, Masvingo, Mutare, Gweru, Harare and Bietbridge.
” The Bible Society of Zimbabwe started this project of Sign Language Bible Translation in 2022. They are currently focusing much on Bible Stories and will later do verse by verse Bible Translation. There is need for us all as the Church of God to support in Cash the Sign Language Bible Translation process so that our dear friends the DEAF community will also have their Bible in their preferred Language that they understand.”
