Police in Masvingo Central District have, banned the carrying of dangerous weapons with the effect from 25 March until 25 June.
Officer Commanding Masvingo Central, Chief Superintendent Simangaliso Dube, issued a statement saying the ban was enforced under Section 4 (4) of MOPA and will last until June 25, 2025.
“Police hereby issue any order prohibiting the carrying of such weapons in the area or any part thereof for a period not exceeding three months, that is, from the 25th day of March to the 25th day of June 2025,” said Chief Sup Dube.
Failure to comply with the prohibition will result in a fine, a jail term of six months, or both, with the police having the authority to seize such weapons.
Masvingo Central Police District covers Masvingo Town and areas extending from Shashe River to the North, Chief Zimuto, Chief Chiwara communal lands to the North East, Chief Chikwanda to the East, Chief Nyajena to the South, Tugwi River to the South West under chiefs Charumbira and Bere, and along Mushandike River to the West under Chief Bere.
The banned weapons include catapults, machetes, axes, knobkerries, knives, daggers, and traditional weapons.
