Winter cropping farmers will be required to sign a water abstraction agreement with the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) so that they will allowed to irrigate using water from reserved dam reservoirs.
Said ZINWA:
“he winter cropping season will soon be upon us and all those intending to irrigate will be required to sign water abstraction agreements with ZINWA, which will allow them to have water reserved for them in the dams.
“With water being second most strategic resource in agriculture; after land, it is important for water users to understand how the water abstraction agreements system works.
A water abstraction agreement is a contract that any person, entity or organisation who needs a reservation for their use of raw water from ZINWA managed or state owned dams enters into with ZINWA for the provision of his or her water requirements.
Last week ZINWA hosted a 2025 Winter Cropping preseason stakeholder engagement meeting to among other things, review the performance of the 2024 Winter cropping season and to share the 2025 Winter Cropping Season water outlook.
