Hrare Residents Trust (HRT) has urged residents to demand a transparent water bottles billing system as their hard earned cash risks being ‘abused’ by council management.
Said HRT:
“Without a billing system, money will be stolen on a daily basis at the City of Harare.
As a responsible ratepayer, demand a functional, transparent and accountable billing system from your Ward Councillor, Member of Parliament and your local District Officer.”
HRT accused council management of paying themselves hefty salaries while they provide basic service delivery.
“They cannot pay US$30 000 salaries and still fail to collect your garbage.
The City of Harare cannot give senior managers vehicle loans of US$85 000 and still fail to repair sewer pipe bursts in the communities.
“Senior managers earn around US$15 000 every month, but the City of Harare is failing to purchase a new billing system.
There is rampant theft of funds from council coffers. US$200 million has been reported missing, and these people pretend to be confused. The City of Harare is failing to provide residents with potable water.
“The reality is that they do not want a new billing system in order to continue looting council funds,”said HRT.
Government has instituted a commission to investigate the running of Harare City Council with revelations that millions of dollars have been unaccounted for while senior management awarding themselves hefty packages.
