Suburbs of Budiriro, Glenview and Mufakose will experience acute water shortages as daring thieves today stole straps from the water pipes, resulting in Harare city council unable to supply water from Morton Jaffray.
This was confirmed by the local authority.
“Heartless thieves stole straps holding our major pipes from Morton Jaffray Waterworks to Marimba reservoirs. As a result, we have stopped pumping water to Mufakose,, Glenview and Budiriro until the pipe is repaired.
We will be giving residents regular updates on the situation. Any inconveniences caused are sincerely regretted.”
The local authority could not divulge when the issue will be rectified.
Residents in the three surbubs who spoke to The Blast urged council to urgently rectify the problem as they fear an upsurge of water borne diseases.
“We are calling on council to quickly attend to the problem as there is a danger of an upsurge of water borne diseases. The boreholes in the suburbs are very few and cannot cater for the whole population, hence there is an urgent need to attend to the matter,” said residents.
