Police on Thursday assisted and rescued 10 villagers who had been marooned on an island along Save River,near Birchenough bridge.

“The ZRP Sub-Aqua team rescued 10 people who were marooned on an island in Save River, Birchenough, Chipinge, on 20 February. The victims, who are members of three families, had travelled to the island to tend to their fields.
“They had built a makeshift shelter while weeding their crops. However, they became trapped when the river flooded.”
Meanwhile police in Chivi, arrested Tapiwa Mabhiza for murder.
“On 21 February, police in Chivi arrested Tapiwa Mabhiza (47) in connection with a murder case in which he allegedly killed Vongai Matonodze (26) following a dispute over the property he had acquired for the victim. The suspect reportedly struck the victim on the back of the head with a wheel spanner and hit her multiple times on the head with a stone before fleeing the scene,” said police.

In an other case, a Chegutu man was arrested after being found in possession of copper cables.

“ZRP Chegutu has arrested Tichaona Dube (34) after he was found in possession of copper cables which he could not account for, at Lambourne Farm on 21 February around 0300 hours. The suspect, who was with his accomplice, only known as Isaya Tembo, was seen by farm security guards while burning the cables near Harare-Bulawayo Road. “Police recovered 2×10 m of ZESA armoured copper cables and three pieces of folded copper geyser pipes.”
