The Acting Secretary General for the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions ( ZCTU), Runesu Dzimiri said in a statement addressed to staff workers that it was disheartening to note that over 3000 workers affiliated to ZCTU lost their jobs from 2022 to 2024, emphasizing that this needs an redress.
“This year let us work together with a shared purpose to transform our organisation and restore dignity to all workers.It is time for action, not just words.While we have produced numerous articles and statements, we must now back them up with decisive action to ensure our voices are heard louder and clear ” said Dzimiri.
Dzimiri said the Labour Union affiliates need to be supported as they are facing numerous challenges.
“Our affiliates needs our support, as they are losing membership daily due to economic instability, policy inconsistencies,victimization, sexual harassment ,unfair dismissal and unlawful termination.According to the retrenchment board statistics, we lost 3651members across all sectors from 2022 to 2024.Many workers are experiencing mental health challenges due to poor salaries are even organising self staff meetings to address these pressing issues.”
