The Harare city council said it is concerned over rising cases of fraud as a result of conmen who are masquerading as business licence inspectors, pocketing the money collected.
“The City of Harare has noted with concern rising cases of fraudsters masquerading as business licence inspectors who are issuing fake licenses and pocketing the money collected,”said the council in a statement.
“Our municipal police investigative teams this week uncovered three fake licenses in business shops along Kaguvi Street.
“Inquiries on the business owners in question established that they had acquired the fake licenses through an individual by the name Edmore Muringayi who claimed that he worked for the City of Harare at Rowan Martin Building. They were tricked into paying various amounts of money.
Muringayi has since been arrested and is assisting police with investigations. We urge business owners to be aware of unscrupulous fraudsters masquerading as municipal officials,”said council.
