12 people have so far succumbed to diarrhoea scourge, after 7 people died this week, according to the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
” A total of 6506 common diarrhea cases and 7 deaths were reported this week. The deaths were reported from Sally Mugabe Hospital (6), & Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital (1) in Harare Metropolitan Province,”read the ministry’s weekly report.
The ministry added that the total number of diarrhoea cases reported in the country is now over 12000.
“Of the reported cases of common diarrhea 2867 were under 5years of age. The provinces that reported the highest number of cases were Mashonaland Central (932), Mashonaland West (1877). Cumulative for diarrhea figures are 12483 cases and 12 deaths.”
In Zimbabwe diarrhoea is mainly caused by poor water sanitation in the urban areas caused by collapse infrastructure.
Diarrhoea may be caused by many things, including:
a bacterial infection, a virus, trouble digesting certain things (food intolerance), food allergy (such as celiac disease, gluten allergy), parasites that enter the body through food or water, a reaction to medicines, an intestinal disease, such as inflammatory bowel disease.
