The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a case where a Chinese manager is alleged to have pointed a fire arm and assaulted a Zimbabwean worker at a Gweru mine, following a labour dispute.

In a statement, ZRP spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating an assault and pointing of a firearm incident which occured at Bijour farm, Lower Gweru, Midlands province on 21 January 2025.
“Kholwani Dube stabbed a Chinese national with an okapi knife on the leg after a labour dispute, while the Chinese national pointed a fire arm at Dube.Both the Zimbabwean national and the Chinese national are facing criminal charges.”
Meanwhile Nyathi said police have arrested a Chinese national who shot a Zimbabwean national at a mine in Filabusi.
“Mthandazo Sibanda (29) was shot with a 9 mm Derya pistol by a Chinese national while allegedly stealing gold dump at Binyup 5 mine, Filabusi on 22 January 2025.Police have since arrested the Chinese national,” said Nyathi.
Cases of Chinese nationals abusing local workers have caused an outrage in the country with calls for stiffer penalities against the abuses.
