The January 25 Zifa elections, which have ignited all the fissures, particularly with the disqualification of Walter Magaya, the presidential front runner, and four others, has today dropped another lemon, The Page can confirm.
Bernard Gwarada, the only executive Committee member, to have been disqualified from the race, in which more than 30 candidates are tearing each other apart for just six positions, has been restored to the ballot, five days before the convocation.
Gwarada confirmed the good news. Zifa have admitted they had erred in deeming the Led Car hire executive paper’s not in order.
This is coming against a backdrop of Benjani and Gift Banda having approached the CAS for redress. And only yesterday, the CAS confirmed receiving an appeal from Magaya, too.
The Page also understands that Magaya approached the High Court seeking an interdict to stop the election until his appeal is dealt with.
Zifa failed to attend court, forcing the matter to be moved to Tuesday, for hearing, just a day before the convocation.
The Page has also established that the CAS will hand down a determination on the Benjani case, a day after convocation, if the sources at the Swiss arbitration court, are to be believed.
Magaya, Benjani, Banda and Temba Mliswa remain disqualified.
This election has been a real gift that kept on giving. And Zifa are best advised that: “There’s no expertise that can make you clap with one hand”.
