The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) says the country’s major dams now hold 59,1% of their capacity after the rains in November and current downpours.
In a statement on 6 January ZINWA said:
Despite the recent increase, the current national dam level average of 59,1% still lags behind last year’s level of 78%.

“The current wet spell being experienced in different parts of the country continue to push water levels in major dams up with the national dam level average now standing at 59.1% marking a 1.59% improvement since December 30, 2024. The number of dams recording increases has also grown with positive gains being observed in Bubi Lupane, Insukamini, Pollards, Upper Umguza, Manyame, Masembura, Silalabuhwa, Manyuchi, Mzingwane, Mtshabezi, Zhovhe, Upper Insiza, Mzingwane, Gwenoro, Muzhwi, Wenimbi, Claw, Mamina, Mutirikwi, Inzisa and Bangala.
“The national dam level average, however, remains below the 78% recorded during the same week last year and water users are advised to continue using the resource sparingly and efficiently. All those drawing water from the dams for purposes other than primary purposes, including for summer crop irrigation, should ensure that their water use is in terms of water abstraction agreements in accordance with the law,”said Marjorie Munyonga, ZINWA head of corporate communications and marketing,
