The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) on Saturday held a young workers conference which resulted in election of a new and vibrant leadership.

National Mine Workers Union of Zimbabwe (NMWUZ ) President, Kurebwa Javangwe Nhomboka congratulated the newly elected executive.

“I would like to congratulate the newly elected Young Workers executive led by Wesley Gatsi from National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ).I would like to congratulate our member, Blessing Mdeka who was elected vice secretary,” said Nhomboka.

“I have so much confidence with this elected executive which has the zeal and passion to tackle young workers’ bread and butter issues.”

“I also want take this opportunity to thank the outgoing executive chair Marvellous Tawomera from Catering Union, Cde Nhende and others for championing bread and butter issues of the workers.This executive did a splendid job since 2021.The executive held successful meetings and symposiums , educating the youths in labour related issues such as the Labour Act, Code of Conducts at work stations.
I challenge Cde Gatsi and his team to emulate the outgoing executive’s work and take young workers bread and butter issues ahead.”

He added:
“I would also like to thank ZCTU leadership for holding this successful conference in an orderly and transparent manner.
To the members who contested but could not be voted into office, I say at the end of the day, ZCTU has won, there were no losers .
I urge newly elected executive to ensure that the youths remain united,”said Nhomboka.

National Mine Workers Union of Zimbabwe member, Blessing Mdeka who also works at Zimplats,was elected vice secretary while Wesley Gatsi was elected the chairperson.
